Are you making these mistakes on Google?

At Audience IQ, we have been evaluating Google Ads account for years, we have started to notice certain patterns of Settings that could make the performance much better. Google can be sneaky, but we can help set you on the right path.

Here are the top 5 Google ads Mistakes we discover the most:

1. Not using Conversions Tracking: Conversion tracking is a powerful tool in the Google Ads platform, that helps you to identify how well your campaigns are performing against Key Actions such as (Leads, sales, downloads) on your website, mobile site or application. The data allows you to determine which parts of your campaigns need to be improved. Also, you will not be able to use Google’s smart bidding options if you don’t properly set up conversion tracking.

2. Not using Re-marketing lists for search ads (RLSA). This is a feature that lets you customize your ads for the users that already visited your website. We can use RLSA in 2 ways:

  • Making bid adjustments for users (remarketing lists) that previously visited the website and searching the keywords that you’re bidding on.

  • Create an ad group which will trigger the ads only for Remarketing audiences.

3. Not maximizing the use of Extensions. Site links, callout and structured snippet extensions are must-use for all google search campaigns. Extensions expand ads with additional information. This helps to take up more real estate on the SERP (Search Engine Results Page). Also, there are more items on the page for which the potential customer can click. So it does a great job to help drive lower cost traffic. If done properly, ads will get higher Click Through Rates (CTR) and a lower cost per click (CPC.)

4. Not Buying Branded Keywords. Here are the top reasons to bid on your branded queries:

  • Competitors may be buying your branded keywords. So, if someone does a search for your company they will find your organic listing after your competitor’s nice ad copy.

  • You’ll dominate the SERP with the message that will grab the attention of searchers and attract them to click on the ad.

  • Branded terms are cheap. The main reason is that usually, the quality score is 9 or 10. Thanks to this you’re boosting the overall average quality score and paying less for the clicks.

5. Not Linking Google Analytics (GA) to Google ads Accounts. Here are some of the benefits:

  • Importing goals and transactions from GA to Google ads.

  • GA gives you way more possibilities when creating audiences for re-marketing ads. You can create different advanced segments in GA and export to Google ads.

Running Google ads campaigns can be tricky. However, with enough practice, you can be on your way to mastering an incredibly powerful marketing tool.

If this is all too daunting, consider getting a Google AdWords agency to do all the hard work!
